Returning to the Sea

Returning to the Sea is an ambitious project for MUSA, Mexico. Inspired by the ancient giant  mountains of Colorado, USA that were once Coral reefs. The remnants of these sea creatures can be found in the present stone Quarry of Marble. The great Rio Grand River is sourced in these snowy peaks and flows to the Gulf of Mexico. The female sea creature emerges from the stone. Marble is an ideal surface for the corals to settle and slowly she will be returned to the sea. The carved stone will be placed in a concrete base for stability and this will be planted with baby coral. We will also make a replica of the marble sculpture  in concrete and this will be used  study  how life grows  different on the two identical forms yet very different surfaces. We are seeking funding for this project.
